On the road in Whitehorse

Tonight we are in Whitehorse. It seams like it has been much longer than the five days that have transpired. Where do we start.

We actually we started in Port Hardy. Hard to believe but we actually started a motorcycle trip with good weather. Boat trip was really quite good but boring. Stunning scenery on the inside passage but my god was it a long ferry ride.

Had a short stay over in Prince Rupert. The hotel we booked was supposed to be a 3 star but I think someone cant count.Best thing was when I questioned why we could not park the bikes in the underground parking they let us pull them up to the front doors of the hotel and park them there

We stopped and visited the old cannery at Port Edward outside Prince Rupert. It is really well done and any of you who have a coastal marine history in your family would really enjoy it

We made it up to Stewart on the first day but with a little excitement. We stopped to take pictures of Bear Glacier which is ritht on the side of the road going in. There was a storm brewing and the wind was quite high. Well Karen stopped, got her camera out and as a gust of wind hit her she fell over. Well actually fell off the bike !! She did not get hurt - other than her pride - and a few minutes of straightening out things all was well with the bike. The camera though bit the dust shall we say. We actually have a picture of the ground as the camera was hitting it. And we have a picture of Karen with her bike on it's side :)

The Cassiar highway is narrow, winding with breathtaking scenery. The northern part is sort of a slightly wider logging road that has been covered in tar and gravel. Challenging in places but it is a good warm up to the Dempster.

We are heading off to Dawson tomorrow and the north on Wednesday. We have a window of good weather and need to take advantage of that. So hopefully by weekend we should have made it to the Artic Circle and be back in Dawson. Hope to update you then

I will try to upload photos later to a photoshare site and post the link

WooHoo!!!
We're REALLY glad to hear you're alive and well and even more happy and proud of you both that you've made it so far in just five days!
Keep up the great journal entries and good luck on the Dempster.

I'll be in Nanaimo next Fri but I'm staying at Paul's - then down to Victoria to go for a ride with Brad on his new (to him) DL650. My bike should be good to go to meet you somewhere on your way back down.

Take care.
Dale
