Halifax at her Best!!

The Wonderful town of Halifax!!

We needed a break from the trail so Halifax was our destination for three nights! Found a nice hotel (The Atlantica) only a short taxi ride (less than $10.00) when parking downtown if you could find it over $15 for a few hours!! Wonderful boardwalk around the harbour (that’s Kevan for they had Timmy’s) with shops, restaurants, tours etc. All devised to extract $ from your wallet. I was good and didn’t buy much as we only have so much room in poor Rattletrap!!

After so many museums I was starting to feel blasé about them so when Kevan said lets go to Pier 21 it’s the immigration museum honestly I think my eyes rolled because we were already going to the Maritime museum as well. Can you guess who was the emotional one leaving later? Yep that’s me!! Reason being that our family (my dad’s side) have little to no knowledge of my grandfather’s roots (it’s a long story that would need copious amounts of either chocolate or liquor) only that he immigrated to Canada at some point. We didn’t even know his mothers name. Well after the tour of the original building that saw thousands of immigrants, downstairs there was a young man in the genealogy room that had within twenty minutes found his immigration papers, ship and its information, family names, and the town that they went too. My great-grandmothers name was Isabella!!!

OK, enough sappy stuff and on to the cool things Halifax had to offer. Great food- ok thinking of seafood? Not!! Gourmet burgers in a funky restaurant!! Irish pub with the best pizza!!

The Maritime museum was great with a special area in regards to the Titanic including artifacts from the ocean floor. The Citadel was also a great stop with the largest amount of historical military artifacts I have ever seen.

There were a few tall ships giving tours as well as a well-known Theodore the Tugboat (cartoon when Jon was small) tied up.

Wonderful weather here, shorts and t-shirts!!!
I think Ryanne is in her glory with an elevator to her suite on the 14th floor, walks through the lobby with her adoring fans, and carpet!!!

Til next time....
